about

Dedicated to Jon Bessent, Austin gear repairman extraordinaire and just a great human being. RIP 6/09. He was my go-to music gear repair guy for about 20 years, and he was my friend. He did me innumerable kindnesses, great and small, and I miss him. He had an aura about him that put out positive energy. The world is reduced by his passing. I put this song together and recorded it the day I found out about his death.

Jon would always say "May the tone be with you" to end the conversation. It was his signature. And he played the hell out of the mandolin, pedal steel, guitar and just about anything else. He was kind enough to play pedal steel on a song for my "Le Cafard" album in 2001, and wouldn't even take any $ for it (even though he was insanely busy all the time). Thank you for everything, Jon.
