I was a regular participant in the Burning Man festival, held in the Black Rock Desert 127 miles northeast of Reno, Nevada, for nine years (1999-2007). I often wrote and recorded original music for use in my own art projects and events out on the playa. But sometimes I would also donate such music to other Burning Man artists who were seeking specialized original music for their projects. This album is a compilation of the three recordings I wrote and donated to the Ambient Dream Garden art installation in 2007.

That project consisted of a house built out in the deep playa, where people walking inside would trigger various optical sensors that in turn triggered playback of many recordings people had made for the artists, narrating their dreams and nightmares. The artists wanted some dark ambient music that would play in the background on a loop, and they ended up using the recordings I made for them.

All three songs were recorded in real time, with real-time effects processing. There are no overdubs on this album. These were experiments for me in spontaneous composition, and I really enjoyed the process. I used oddball world music instruments for each song, as detailed in the page here for each song.

A prolific songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and recording artist...and a restless musical spirit, always looking for something new, expressed with fearlessly honest, socially-conscious lyrics. ... more
