I was just capturing an idea I had one rainy Sunday afternoon to try this old traditional song as a jazzy instrumental. I had heard the Marty Robbins version a lot growing up in Texas, and even saw him play it once live as a kid when I was taken to the big San Antonio Stockshow and Rodeo (he came across as having an ego bigger than the Cadillac convertible he was standing up in as he was driven through the manure to the stage).
