about

I can remember going to see "The Last Waltz" at the midnight movie when I was in high school in the late '70s in San Antonio. Then (as now), the performance that knocked me out was Rick Danko singing "It Makes No Difference." It's like you can hear his heart breaking as he played his last gig with the guys he'd been on the road with for over a decade--The Band. And after that time, his life was essentially a sad decline of drug addiction and non-essential musical releases and shows.

The studio version of this song by The Band is not that great, because the group was already disintegrating by that time in a haze of interpersonal conflicts and drug problems. But this live version is one of the most emotional, powerful moments of rock and roll that I know, and I've always felt like I wanted to perform this song in bands I'm in so that it stays alive and out there in the world.

Vic sings what I think is his best vocal ever on our recording. I hope we did it justice.
