about

I've been a Dylan freak from way back, and Desire is my favorite album of his. Even though the band is great, the recordings of those wonderful songs on that album are sometimes a bit of a mess. From what I've read, Dylan was burning up with new ideas and they couldn't get him to do more than two takes of any song. And so the producer had to take the best of the two versions each time, and then move on.

My favorite Dylan song is "One More Cup of Coffee," just because of its mystery, vibe and flamenco chord progression. The short version on Desire makes me (and likely millions of others) wish they'd done a few more takes to get it right.....I mean, he flubs the first line! But that song....man, what a song. And so I always like to perform this one in solo shows, and to talk any band I'm in into doing it live, too. I have to say that I really like the version we captured in the studio this night. Vic has a wonderful vocal here, and Pat's conga parts really add an exotic flavor. I hope you enjoy it.

Dylan (or his record company anyway) is notoriously thorough in scrubbing all his original studio versions off YouTube, etc., but here's someone who put the original song on there and hasn't gotten scrubbed yet:
