[A MESSAGE FROM WALTER]

ORIGINALLY APPEARED ON MY 2010 ALBUM "WELL.........LET'S LOOK AT YOUR TRACK RECORD, SHALL WE?"

This is another one that had full instrumentation in the original version, but which I've been playing a bit in solo acoustic shows here in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico, where I moved in 2015. I thought it would be fun to capture a new version that was more like what I've been doing in solo piano performances.

The lyrics were inspired by the John Irving book "Last Night In Twisted River," where the character of Lady Sky makes her entrance as a naked Amazonian sky-diver who is rescued from an errant landing in a pig sty by the protagonist, and later comes to represent the possibility of redemptive love, even late in life. What a nice idea!

lyrics

Lady Sky
(© 2009 Walter Ehresman)

Through the thunderhead--a sunbeam shining,
and our Lady Sky is flying;
Hope or guardian? (An angel sometimes);
Love to see her up there gliding.

[chorus]
It's a world of accidents, and things we can't control;
And who hasn't wished for someone to walk with us down the rabbit hole.

See her stride through the blinding blizzard;
See her walk out of a raging sea;
See her crawl out from the deepest abyss;
See her always be there for me.
See her heart so big, it folds my space/time;
See her arms so wide, the world is smiling;
See her eyes so bright, Calcutta glistens;
See us walking in the daylight laughing.

Through the thunderhead--a sunbeam shining,
and our Lady Sky is flying;
Hope or guardian? (An angel sometimes)
Love to see her up there gliding.
See her stride through the blinding blizzard;
See her walk out of a raging sea;
See her crawl out from the deepest abyss;
See her always be there for me.
