Ehresman states that he wrote this song to mark the once-year anniversary of the Jan. 6, 2021 right wing coup attempt In the US. "I feel very strongly that it's important for Americans (and everyone, really) to remember that vile day and, as a musician, this is the most emotionally direct way for me to contribute to that."

LIstening to the song, you can hear the anguish in his voice as he sings in an usual register for him.......catching somewhat of a Son Volt feel. The music is as stark as the message of deluded madness devoid of empathy, with upright piano the sole backing instrument until a snarling Neal Young-like guitar interlude erupts in the middle section to grab you by the ears to make sure you're paying attention. The power of lines like "Seeing nothing/just the script behind your eyes/delusions 'neath that flag disguise/horde the bullets, see no prize/no real endpoint you can name" cannot be denied. Strong stuff, and some of his best, most emotional and searing protest songwriting.
